Children With Special Needs |
 |
|
Some children see differently, some think or learn differently and others move differently. When children with special needs are enrolled in quality early childhood education and care environments right alongside typically developing children, everyone benefits.

What should parents know about care for children with special needs?
- You are the expert where your child is concerned. You are a key member of the team and your ideas are valuable when it comes to planning the support your child needs.
- Federal and state laws give children with developmental delays or disabilities specific rights and protections in public early childhood settings.
What should parents expect when contacting a program for support?
- Someone from the program will speak with you on the telephone, ask basic questions and together with you decide if the referral process should begin.
- You and program staff will form a team to evaluate the child's development by looking at records and developmental information.
- The team will determine if the child is eligible for services. If he or she is, an individual plan will be developed to provide services.
- Your child will begin to receive the services he or she deserves!
- If you have a concern about your child's development, call your local school or Birth to 3 Program. Your child may be eligible for special services.
